- Completed application form
- Autobiographical essay (300 to 500 words) explaining your family background, including any hardships you've experienced, why you want to be a journalist and what you believe is the role, if any, of Latino journalists in the mainstream news media
- Two current reference letters, including at least one from a faculty member (no family members), that speak to your journalism abilities
- Current official transcripts
- Resume, include any school or professional work and internships
- Work samples (which include newspaper articles, TV or radio audition tapes, photographs produced by student applicant)
- Latino college students and graduating high school seniors attending a college or university in California are eligible (California residents may attend a college or university outside of California)
- Students may major in any field, but must be able to prove a sincere interest in pursuing a career in journalism
- Finalists must be able to participate in an oral interview
