The ET Foundation is pleased to invite entries from students studying design engineering or related field for the Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. To be eligible for the student class you must be enrolled in a college university technical school or high school in order to participate in the competition.
Students have a unique way of looking at the world which makes them well qualified to offer innovative solutions to design challenges. Think outside the box to come up with new inventive and resourceful uses for extruded aluminum. Student Class scholarship Awards are presented to the first second and third place entries as well as the LED Lighting Design. Additional scholarships may - at the judges' discretion - be awarded to other exemplary entries. Bonnell Aluminum LED Lighting Design Challenge:1.) Entry is a LED lighting application that utilizes either standard or custom-designed extruded aluminum shapes2.)The LED lighting application can be for either a residential or commercial application interior or exterior application3.) Meets the four basic ET Foundation Design Competition criteria of creativity practicality product/process advantage and market impact/potential4.) Addresses the following technical aspects of lighting fixtures: -Demonstrates entrant knowledge and application of aluminum extrusions to "light-weight" the fixture relative to othercompeting materials -Demonstrates heat transfer knowledge and application in designing the heat dissipating specifications for the lighting fixture -Recognition and application of leveraging the natural reflectivity advantages of aluminum versus competing materials5.)
