Application Deadline

March 30, 2017

Each year, scholarships are awarded by the Foundation to undergraduate students specializing in some phase of FLORICULTURE. The object of the awards is to encourage good students to enter the domestic floriculture field; therefore, applicants should intend to work in some phase of COMMERCIAL FLORICULTURE in the United States after graduation.

The definition of Floriculture is: The cultivation of flowers, especially to be cut and sold, including flowering plants and foliage plants, cut flowers, greens, bedding plants (annual and perennial) and hanging baskets.

To be eligible, applicants must attend their present institution or another providing accredited floriculture course work during the next academic school year. Since specialization might not occur until later in four-year schools, preferences will be given to upper division applicants.

In evaluating each candidate, grades are important.  However, other factors are considered such as need, work status, character, and intent. The application, letters of recommendation and transcripts must be received no later than March 30 in order to be eligible for consideration.

Applicants will be notified of the final outcome of award selection in May to provide ample time to complete financial arrangements for the next academic school year.

To be eligible for a Shinoda Foundation Scholarship, you must be able to answer "Yes" to the following questions:

Are you an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States (or in a California community college)?
Will you be a sophomore, junior, or senior for the next academic year?
Are you majoring in a degree program related to the field of floriculture (production, distribution, research, or retail)?
Do you intend to work in some phase of commercial floriculture in the United States after graduation?

If you have answered all four questions "Yes," you are eligible to apply for a scholarship. You may request an application form from the departments specified in our list of university links. You may also complete the application form on-line, print it, sign an original copy and mail it, along with the other required documents. Or you may print out the form, complete, sign, and return it with all required documents. In either case, it must be mailed to:
