Applicant must demonstrate:
Character
Leadership
Financial need
Academic achievement
Other application requirements:
FAFSA and SAR, SAT/ACT scores.
Recommendations must include an evaluation of applicant's "classroom teaching effectiveness."
Personal statement describing applicant's community service projects or activities.
Essay must also answer question "What is your teaching philosophy and how is it applied in classroom today?"
(with one example).
Applicants disqualified if they fail to address essay topic in personal statement.
Additional information:
Minimum 2.8 GPA.
Must major in education with an emphasis on classroom teaching.
Preference given to nontraditional students with at least two years of teaching experience.
Preference given to students of Hawaiian ethnicity.
Applicants must have permanent address in Hawaii.
Amount and number of awards vary and may change yearly.
