To promote excellence in research and writing in the history of four groups - Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Native American - in The United Methodist Church or its antecedents.
How the recipients of the grants are chosen:
Selection is made by a committee consisting of three persons: one historian who is a member of The United Methodist Church, one member of the General Commission on Archives and History and one member chosen at large by the General Secretary of the General Commission.
How to apply:
The candidate must submit an application in English which includes the following:
A description of the project, including its significance, what resources will be used, and how it will be made available to the public
The expected date of completion
An itemized budget
The candidate must submit three letters of recommendation in English from persons who can provide evidence of his/her capability.
Submitted proposals should be postmarked no later than December 31. Grant recipients will be announced by May 1 of the following year.
A reference copy of the final product will be donated to the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church. The Commission will send copies to other United Methodist general agencies as appropriate.
